Welcome to the Winter Rally School - Sweden 2011 Scrapbook page!
Whilst summer is upon us and most of you are hoping for sunshine we at Extreme Rally are already looking forward to the snow falling in Sweden marking the beginning of our preparation for the Extreme Rally Winter Rally School 2012 in snowy Sweden. For those of you that didn't join us this year... you missed out on a lot!
But don't worry, thanks to a visit from Top Gear; a lot of Gyrocopter flying & standing in the cold by our fantastic photographer Harry and my pitiful attempts at taking photos in -29°C you can see what we got up to!
Where to start...
Firstly thank you to all of you who joined us this year for our extended Winter Rally School which ran all the way to the end of March adding another month from last year! As with 2010 we were very lucky to have fantastic clients join us out in Sweden, with novices to professionals and this year with clients from all over the world. Not only did the instructors get tested on their Swedish, this year the boys were learning French, Spanish, Italian and even Turkish from our guests!
As always Roger did a fantastic job in maintaining our stage for us and due to the very heavy snowfalls we encountered early on I'd imagine he's still catching up with his sleep! With a few more challenging corners and an Ice Karting track the stage was bigger than ever, complimented wonderfully by our new Scandinavian hut! The hut provided a place for some down time and with the stage being set out with more sliding opportunities than ever we all needed it!
On to the driving, as we explained in our scrapbook last year the lake is blown rather than ploughed meaning that if you do slide off course in an attempt at the elusive power slide you simply glide into the snow until you stop, rather than hitting a barrier. And thank goodness for this with several guests putting Roger's snow blowing to the test! The biggest off goes to Vijay Pattni from Top Gear who was nearly left there all night after numerous attempts to dig him out of the snow after ending up miles off the stage! This was closely followed by our lovely photographer Harry who was flying until his mishap landing him in the middle of nowhere as far as the stage was concerned!
Despite the occasional off it was the most successful year yet with regards to progression, even the most timid of our guests was holding the car sideways at 70mph plus!
We are once again desperate for January to arrive to begin our Winter Rally School 2012, thank you all once again for making 2012 a great success! We look forward to seeing you again soon.
